Saint Xavier University (Chicago, IL) group leader shares her week experience in Belize, May 5-11, 2024.
We did it! And to say these last two days were tough would be an understatement.
First, there was the heat. It has been quite hot down here. Not necessarily with the temperature but the added humidity. Oh, and the rolling brown outs.
Secondly, we had to start the home at Hand in Hand Ministries Belize headquarters and then move it to the land. Last year we built right on the site.
However, we finished most of it. Enough to bless it and the family who will call this place home. In fact I led the blessing this year. Now that was surreal.
I’d say the best part was her youngest child coming up to me in the midst of the blessing and thanking me. I got the best hugs from him, his brother and mom!
If anyone has a chance to do something like this, I’d definitely do it! And I’d highly recommend, doing an experience like this with Hand in Hand Ministries.
I know we still have two more days with you, James Muschamp, but thank you for being our babysitter and driver and tour guide!
Tomorrow we are headed to Caye Caulker and then to Altun Ha on Saturday morning before flying home in the afternoon. ~ Katie Szymczak, Saint Xavier University
